Several of the photos in this gallery show subadult birds, which although retaining a partially dark bill, have developed the pale 'honeycomb' coloured eye. The juvenile bird in 008606 appeared to have a pale eye when seen in the sun (a photo not shown here shows this). These photos were taken on various pelagics around the New Zealand coast.
